(Nov. 29, 2000)--DULUTH, Minn. -- Forward Kyle Behrens (Sr., Hayfield, Minn.) scored 20 points, and all five UND starters scored in double figures to lead the Sioux men's basketball team to a 79-72 win over host Minnesota-Duluth on Wednesday. The win was the fourth in a row for North Dakota, which is now 4-1 overall. Minnesota-Duluth is 3-2.
The Bulldogs led by as much as 11 points in the first half and were ahead 34-30 at halftime. Minnesota-Duluth got the lead back up to nine points at 42-33 with 16:52 to play in the game, and led 50-43 with 12:42 left. The Sioux then went on a 12-0 run over the next 2:27 to take a 55-50 lead with 10:15 remaining. UND point guard Curtis Munlin (Sr., Mishawaka, Ind.) scored nine points and had an assist during the run. He finished the game with 13 points.
North Dakota built its lead to 11 at 66-55 with 6:06 to play when Minnesota-Duluth went on a 12-1 run over the next 3:01 to regain the lead at 69-67 with 3:05 to play. Behrens then connected on his only three-point field goal attempt of the game to give UND the lead, 70-69, with 2:35 left, and the Sioux never trailed again. Munlin made four free throws in the last 29 seconds to seal the win for the Sioux, who converted 16-of-17 free throws (94.1 percent) in the game.
Guard Jeff Brandt (Fr., Minot, N.D.) scored 15 points for North Dakota, forward Tom Jacobson (Sr., Mayville, N.D.) added 14 and Brandon Badding (Jr., Langdon, N.D.) scored 10. Minnesota-Duluth was led by Jake Nettleton's career-high 25 points.
UND will travel to Moorhead, Minn., on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game at MSU, Moorhead.
