The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team ranked first among Division II schools in home attendance for the 2000-01 season according to a recent NCAA report. The UND men’s team ranked fourth nationally.
The Fighting Sioux women’s team played in front of an average of 2,539 fans per game, putting them comfortably ahead of perennial leader North Dakota State, which had an average attendance of 2,337. The North Central Conference led Division II for the 11th consecutive season, with an average attendance of 1,409. Joining UND and NDSU in the top ten were NCC schools South Dakota State (1,884) and Augustana (1,692).
The Fighting Sioux men’s team played in front of an average of 2,987 fans per game, which placed them fourth nationally and second within the NCC. UND improved from sixth for the 2000 season, when it averaged 2,933. The North Central Conference led Division II in attendance for the 21st consecutive season. Joining the Fighting Sioux in the national top ten were NCC members South Dakota State (3,765), South Dakota (2,716) and Augustana (2,456).
