Sioux City, Iowa – The University of North Dakota men's basketball team rolled to a 101-67 victory over host Morningside College in a North Central Conference game on Saturday night. Twelve players scored for the Sioux, led by junior Jerome Beasley's 19 points. UND raced out to a 49-21 halftime lead, limiting the Mustangs to 17.9 percent first-half shooting, then rolled up 52 second-half points to crack the 100-point barrier for the first time since a 101-55 victory over Minot State on Dec. 7, 1999. With the win the Sioux improved to 10-5 overall, 5-2 in the NCC.

North Dakota took a commanding lead early in the contest. After Morningside tied the score at four at the 18:27 mark, sophomore Jeff Brandt hit a 3-pointer for the Sioux to give them a 7-4 lead. It was a lead they would hold the remainder of the game. UND took its first double-figure lead at the 11:22 mark when a Beasley dunk put the Sioux up 24-13. The largest lead of the first half was the halftime score, 49-21, after Brandt hit another 3-point shot with just five seconds remaining before the break.

North Dakota shot 50.0 percent in the opening half, hitting 21-of-42 field goal attempts. Morningside hit just 5-of-28 tries (.179) Brandt had 15 points to lead the Sioux, Beasley 12. Juniors Robert Lolar and Ryan Walker both had a team-high six rebounds.

UND slowly expanded its lead in the second half, partly due to hot shooting by nearly every player UND coach Rich Glas put in the game and partly due to a defensive effort that still had Morningside at 28 points with just over 11 minutes to go in the game. The Sioux's lead reached 45 points, 77-32, at the 9:19 mark when freshman Todd Rypkema hit both ends of a one-and-one.

The game allowed Glas to use his entire bench, with every player finishing with at least nine minutes played. None of the subs was more impressive than freshman Steve Bradley, who came off the bench to play 11 minutes. The 6-4 guard from Erskine, Minn., hit 4-of-5 shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts, to finish with 13 points.

Beasley finished with 19 points, Brandt 16 and Bradley 13. No other UND player was in double figures. Lolar grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

UND ended up shooting 47.4 percent for the game, while Morningside improved to 37.7 percent. The Sioux had a 49-34 advantage on the boards.

The Sioux will be back in action next weekend when they host St. Cloud State and MSU-Mankato on Friday and Saturday. Games times both nights is 8 p.m.
