Grand Forks, ND — North Dakota had six players finish with at least eight points and had 13 players score as the Sioux rolled to a 91-63 home-court victory over Morningside on Friday night. Sophomore Jeff Brandt led the way with a team-high 14 points, while freshman Mike Johnson hit 4 of 6 shots and 5 of 6 free throws to finish with a career-high 13 points. Junior Jerome Beasley added 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists as the Sioux improved to 13-8 overall, 8-5 in the North Central Conference. North Dakota moved into a tie with St. Cloud State for fourth place in the NCC with the win. Morningside fell to 3-19 overall, 0-14 in the NCC.

North Dakota jumped out to a 41-23 halftime lead by limiting the Mustangs to 28.1 percent first-half shooting while shooting 50.0 percent itself. Down 9-8 after MC's Matt Britton hit a 3-point shot with 15:19 on the clock, North Dakota went on a 25-2 run over the next eight minutes to grab a commanding double-figure lead it wouldn't relinquish the remainder of the game. Eight different UND players scored during the run.

Nine different Sioux players scored in the opening half, led by Johnson's eight points. Brandt added seven, while sophomores Jade Jahner and Josh Johnson had six.

North Dakota opened the second half on an 8-2 run to quickly resume control of the game, taking a 49-25 lead at the 15:50 mark. Morningside would only get the lead under 20 points at one more point in the half.

While the second-half lead remained in the 20s, North Dakota took advantage of an effective transition game to keep the crowd buzzing with an assortment of dunks. Beasley got the procession rolling with a slam at the 17:54 mark. Brandt and senior Jerrid Sebesta also had transition dunks, but it was junior Robert Lolar's dunk at the 11:14 mark that got the crowd on its feet. Taking the ball just beyond the free throw line, the 6-6 forward took one dribble and exploded to the basket for a left-handed slam that put UND up 62-38.

Ten players played at least 10 minutes for the Sioux, who hit 33 of 66 shots for the game. The Sioux outrebounded Morningside 46-34 and had just nine turnovers compared to 17 assists.

North Dakota is back in action on Saturday night when the Sioux host South Dakota, an 86-73 victor over North Dakota State on Friday night.
