GRAND FORKS, N.D.—Mandy Arndtson (Sr., Austin, Minn.) scored 18 points and Theresa LeCuyer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) added 16 points as North Dakota (14-0 overall, 6-0 NCC) defeated South Dakota, 76-48, in NCC women’s basketball at the Hyslop Sports Center on Friday.
South Dakota (7-7, 2-5) was led by Julia Frie’s 14 points. Kelly Koepp had 13 for the Coyotes.
The Sioux dominated from the game’s outset. UND jumped out to a 10-4 margin in the first five minutes, extended its lead to 26-15 with 5:20 to play in the half and opened up an 18-point lead (37-19) at halftime.
Arndtson scored 14 of her points in the first half, and LeCuyer got 12 of hers in the first half.
UND started the second half with a 10-5 run, but then South Dakota had its best spurt of the game, scoring eight straight points—five by Koepp—to whittle the Sioux lead down to 15 points (47-32) with 14:46 to play.
North Dakota took control of the game at that point, outscoring the Coyotes 23-10 over the next nine minutes to break the game open.
Every Sioux player got in the game for at least three minutes. UND guard Megan Pick (So., Annandale, Minn.) tied a career high with five points and Sioux guard Tara Zoanni (Fr., Conrad, Mont.) scored a career-high four points.
UND outrebounded South Dakota, 48-30, with Sioux center Jenny Boll (So., Crookston, Minn.) grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. North Dakota made 17-of-18 free throws (94.4 percent) in the game.
