MANKATO, Minn. — North Dakota led from start to finish, and five Sioux players scored in double figures in a 78-49 UND win over Minnesota State, Mankato, in North Central Conference women’s basketball on Saturday.
Sioux forwards Theresa LeCuyer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) and Mandy Arndtson (Sr., Austin, Minn.) led the way with 14 and 12 points, respectively, as top-ranked UND (16-1 overall, 8-1 NCC) maintained its one-game NCC lead over second-place North Dakota State.
Jenny Hoffner (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored 11 points and Jenny Boll (So., Crookston, Minn.) and Janel Palbicki (So., Bloomington, Minn.) each added 10 points for UND.
Sioux point guard Tonia Jones (Sr., Thompson, N.D.) scored seven points, had three assists, one block, four steals and no turnovers.
UND jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 4:55 of the game, and the Sioux built an 18-5 lead with 13:37 to play in the first half.
MSU, Mankato came within 10 points of UND for a brief one-minute stretch late in the first half, but Arndtson’s layup with 5:12 to play in the half gave the Sioux a 27-17 lead, and the Mavericks never again were as close as 10 points. UND led 39-18 at the half.
The Sioux shot 48.4 percent (31-of-64) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range while holding MSU, Mankato to 27.7 percent (13-of-47) shooting from the field.
UND won the rebounding battle, 40-28.
In their next game, the Sioux will play host to Northern Colorado on Friday at 6 p.m.
