GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Theresa LeCuyer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) scored 19 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to lead North Dakota to a 76-51 win over visiting Nebraska-Omaha in North Central Conference women’s basketball on Saturday.

UND is now 18-1 overall and 10-1 in the NCC, while Nebraska-Omaha fell to 6-13 overall and 4-7 in the NCC.

LeCuyer, who did not start for the first time in her two-year Sioux career, hit 8-of-14 shots from the field, including 4-of-6 three-pointers. She made 7-of-9 shots from the field in the second half.

LeCuyer started 30 games last year and UND’s first 18 games this year, but had been in a recent scoring slump (24 points in her last three games), so Sioux head coach Gene Roebuck decided to give Janel Palbicki (So., Bloomington, Minn.) her first career start on Saturday. Palbicki played well, scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds in 22 minutes.

The Sioux gave the crowd of 3,785 something to cheer about early. Forward Mandy Arndtson (Sr., Austin, Minn.), who came into the game needing three points to reach 1,000 for her career, made a basket and free throw 50 seconds into the game for the first three points of the contest.

Arndtson became the 18th UND player to reach 1,000 points in her career. She finished the game with 14 points, giving her 1,011 for her career.

UND jumped out to an 8-1 lead and built the lead to 19-9 with 11:23 to play in the half. The Sioux led, 30-21, at halftime.

UND still led by nine at 43-34 with 12:31 to play in the game, but then went on a 16-0 run over the next 3:36 to lead 59-34.

Next it was Nebraska-Omaha’s turn. The Mavericks responded with a 15-2 run in a 2:45 span to cut the Sioux lead to 12 points at 61-49 with 6:08 to play.

That was as close as the Mavs got, though, as UND went on a 15-2 run of its own to close out the scoring.

North Dakota shot 43.5 percent from the field (27-of-62) to Nebraska-Omaha’s 37.5 percent (21-of-56). The Sioux outrebounded the Mavericks, 39-38, with Arndtson and Palbicki each grabbing nine boards.

Becky Moen (So., Morris, Minn.) scored 10 points for the Sioux and Tonia Jones (Sr., Thompson, N.D.) had a career-high seven steals.

UND will attempt to protect its one-game lead in the NCC on Friday, when North Dakota State (19-3 overall, 9-2 NCC) visits for a 7 p.m. game at the Hyslop Sports Center.
