GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Theresa LeCuyer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) scored 23 points to lead North Dakota to a 78-54 win over visiting St. Cloud State in North Central Conference women’s basketball on Saturday.
The win clinched at least a share of the NCC championship for UND (22-2 overall, 14-2 NCC). It is the seventh conference title for the Sioux, who last won the NCC in 1999. North Dakota can win the championship outright with one win in its final two games next weekend. The Sioux play at Augustana on Friday and at South Dakota State on Saturday.
St. Cloud State fell to 17-7 overall and 10-6 in the NCC.
The Sioux led 6-5 four minutes into the game but then went on a 13-2 run in just over three minutes and led 19-7 with 12:20 remaining in the half. St. Cloud State narrowed the gap to eight points at 19-11, but UND went on an 11-2 run to lead 30-13 with 6:02 left.
UND maintained its 17-point lead the rest of the half and led 38-21 at the half.
Twelve seconds into the second half, LeCuyer hit a three-pointer to put the Sioux up by 20 points, and St. Cloud State got no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
LeCuyer was one of four UND players who scored in double figures. Forward Mandy Arndtson (Sr., Austin, Minn.) scored 18 points, center Jenny Boll (So., Crookston, Minn.) scored 15 points and forward Becky Moen (So., Morris, Minn.) added 10 points. Tina Schreiner led St. Cloud State with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Boll grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in 19 minutes of playing time for North Dakota. Boll, who missed Friday’s game after suffering a concussion last week against South Dakota, did not start the game against St. Cloud State.
The Sioux outrebounded the Huskies, 45-39. LeCuyer and point guard Tonia Jones (Sr., Thompson, N.D.) each added seven rebounds for North Dakota.
UND shot 44.8 percent from the field (30-of-67) and held St. Cloud State to 32.7 percent shooting (18-of-55). UND forced 24 Huskies’ turnovers while committing 17.
