(Dec. 8, 2000)--GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Theresa LeCuyer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) scored 21 points and Jenny Boll (So., Crookston, Minn.) scored 20 to lead five players in double figures, as the North Dakota women's basketball team beat visiting South Dakota State, 92-80, on Friday in the North Central Conference opener for both teams. UND is now 7-0 on the season, 1-0 in the NCC, while South Dakota State fell to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the NCC.
Mandy Arndtson (Sr., Austin, Minn.) chipped in with 16 points for the Sioux, connecting on 5-of-8 field goal attempts, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. Jenny Hoffner (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored 14 points for UND, and Janel Palbicki (So., Bloomington, Minn.) came off the bench to scored 12 points in 14 minutes. Palbicki had a game-high nine rebounds.
The Sioux shot 53.1 percent from the field to 47.5 percent for the Jackrabbits, and UND held a 38-34 rebounding edge.
UND led 50-40 at the half, but the closest SDSU could get in the second half was within six at 60-54 with 14:29 to play. The Sioux then went on a 16-4 run to lead 76-58 with 8:44 left, and the Jacks never got closer than 12 points again.
Freshman Melissa Pater led SDSU with 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
UND will play host to Augustana on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Vikings (5-2, 1-0) upset North Dakota State, 73-71, on Friday at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo, N.D. It was the first time Augustana defeated NDSU in Fargo since 1980-81, a 24-game stretch, and only the second time overall.
