Grand Forks, ND – University of North Dakota juniors Robert Lolar (Wichita, Kan.) and Jenny Boll (Crookston, Minn.) have both been named the North Central Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. Lolar won the award outright, while Boll shared the honor with South Dakota's Mandy Koupal.
Lolar's honor was the fifth time a UND men's basketball player has earned a conference Player of the Week award, a league high. Lolar joins junior Jerome Beasley, who won the award four times earlier this season. Boll won for the third time this season. It was the league-high eighth time a UND women's basketball player has been honored. Junior Becky Moen has won the award five times this season.
Lolar, a 6-6 forward, scored a total of 35 points as the Sioux swept Augustana and #9 South Dakota State over the weekend. He hit 15 of 27 shots (.556) in the two games, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range. Lolar also averaged 4.0 rebounds per game.
Against SDSU, Lolar erupted for 21 first-half points, including 16 of North Dakota's 18 points during one stretch, as the Sioux used a 35-6 run to jump out to a 54-28 halftime lead over the NCC's and North Central Region's top-ranked team. He finished the game with 25 points. Lolar's previous single-game high was 16 points.
Boll, a 6-1 forward/center, averaged 24.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as the Sioux swept Augustana and #5 South Dakota State to win their second conseutive NCC regular-season championship and their fourth title in the last five years. Boll shot 63.6 percent from the field in the two games and had a career-high 29 points against SDSU, hitting 13 of 17 shots.
