Grand Forks, ND – University of North Dakota women's basketball coach Gene Roebuck announced today that Travis Brewster has been hired as UND's new assistant women's basketball coach, replacing Jennifer Crouse, who resigned on March 18 to pursue a professional playing career.

Brewster, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, spent the 2001-02 season as a graduate assistant coach for the UND men's basketball program.

As a player at the collegiate level, Brewster played two seasons at Iowa Lakes Community College ('90, '91) before moving on to Division I Charleston Southern ('92, '93). At ILCC, Brewster played on teams that went 49-12; at CSU, he was a two-time team Defensive MVP and team captain in 1993. After playing professionally in Europe for three years, Brewster returned to Iowa Lakes in 1998 as an assistant coach. In three seasons he helped guide the Lakers to an aggregate record of 68-27.

"Travis will be a good fit for our program," Roebuck said. "We need someone to work with our post players and Travis brings a lot of experience in that area. And he's been at UND and in the North Central Conference for a year so he's familiar with the league and our program and players.

"Plus, we want to expand our recruiting base to include more of the upper Midwest than just Minnesota and North Dakota and Travis has a number of contacts in Iowa and other areas that can make that happen.

"He'll bring new ideas and a different perspective to the program. He's a great person, and I think he'll fit in well with the team."

UND men's basketball coach Rich Glas had Brewster on his staff for one season.

"Travis had a real positive affect on our program during his time with us," Glas said. "He has a good knowledge of the game and he's a real people person, so he's a very good recruiter. I think he'll be a real asset to Coach Roebuck as they try to maintain the level of excellence they've established."

"I'm really excited to get started," Brewster said on Wednesday. "I think it's a great opportunity.

"The familiarity is certainly a plus and will make the transition of going from the men's program to the women's program easier. I'm happy to stay within the Sioux family."
