Grand Forks, ND — The University of North Dakota men's and women's basketball teams will open their 2001-02 seasons next week with three exhibition games. On Monday, Nov. 5, the teams will have a doubleheader, with the Fighting Sioux women's team playing the University of Manitoba at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game against the Wheeling Bulldogs at 8 p.m. On Thursday, Nov. 8 the men will face the Fargo Beez at 7 p.m. All games will be played at the Hyslop Sports Center.

The University of Manitoba is currently 8-3 for the season. The Bisons went 1-2 in games last weekend at the University of Laval Tournament in Quebec City. After falling to the University of Toronto, 61-59, and Laval, 75-58, UM bounced back with a 69-47 victory over the University of Prince Edward Island. The Bisons finished 17-5 last season.

The Wheeling (W.V.) Bulldogs are a member of the National Alliance Basketball League (NABL), which is a developmental league. The team is made up of post-high school and collegiate players who are attempting to make the move up to other professional leagues.

The Fargo Beez will be made up of players who are competing for spots in the Fargo-Moorhead Beez' veterans camp, which opens Nov. 16. The Fargo-Moorhead Beez will be competing in the CBA for the first year this season. The Fargo Beez will be made up mainly of former Division I players, with a handful of Division II players, including Nathan Blessen, the 2000 North Central Conference MVP at South Dakota.

Tickets will be available at the door the evening of the games. Cost of a ticket will be $5 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 2-18). UND students will be admitted without charge with a student ID.
