Fargo, ND - The North Dakota State Bison had six players finish in double figures and held the North Central Conference's top shooting team to 32.2 percent shooting as NDSU beat the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux for the second time this season, 78-66, in front of 5,478 fans at the Bison Sports Arena Friday night. Leading 27-26 at the half, North Dakota State outscored UND 33-16 in the opening 11 minutes of the second half to take a 60-42 lead. The Sioux made a late run that cut the lead to five, 69-64, with 2:15 to play, but NDSU made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to keep the comeback in check. North Dakota fell to 16-4 overall, 8-4 in the NCC. The Bison improved to 14-6, 7-5 in league play.

Junior Becky Moen scored 31 points to lead North Dakota, while sophomore Mary Perrizo, playing in her first game at North Dakota State since transferring to UND, added 15. No other player had more than eight points for the Sioux. North Dakota State was led by Angie Froehlich, who had a team-high 16 points. Donni Luecke and Beth Bue had 12, while Amanda Gehrke added 11 and Janna Davis and Leah Klabo had 10 apiece. Froehlich and Klabo's points came off the bench, where the Bison held a 30-2 advantage over the Sioux.

North Dakota State jumped out to an early lead, going up 11-0 just over five minutes into the game. But the Sioux responded, going on a 12-1 run to tie the score at 12 on a Moen 3-point shot with 11:15 remaining in the first half. From that point neither team had more than a three-point lead before intermission.

UND held the Bison to 33.3 percent shooting (11x33) in the first half and 11 turnovers, but shot just 22.6 percent (7x31) itself and had 12 turnovers. The Sioux held a slight 27-24 advantage on the boards, including nine offensive rebounds.

The two teams traded points in the early going of the second half before North Dakota State went on its run that put it up 18. Six different Bison players scored points during the run.

Down 18, 63-45, with 7:50 remaining, the Sioux went on a 19-6 run that started with a junior Trish Fleming 3-point shot. A basket by Perrizo with 2:15 to play pulled the Sioux to within five, 69-64, but NDSU's Bue got to the free throw line on NDSU's next possession and hit two free throws. After a UND miss, Angela Mayo scored inside to put the Bison back up nine and finish off the Sioux rally.

The Sioux improved their shooting to 42.9 percent in the second half, but NDSU also got better, improving to 46.4 percent. The Bison also dominated the boards in the second half, outrebounding UND 24-11, including nine on the offensive end.

The victory extended North Dakota State's home winning streak to 17 games.

North Dakota is home next weekend when the Sioux host Morningside and South Dakota.
