Grand Forks, ND – The Fighting Sioux women's basketball team limited Augustana to 30.0 percent shooting and dominated the rebounding battle, 62-28, en route to a 76-49 victory over the Vikings on Friday night at Hyslop Sports Center. It was the fifth straight win for UND, which clinched at least a share of the North Central Conference title. North Dakota improved to 13-4 in the NCC to move a game ahead of South Dakota State, which fell at North Dakota State on Friday night. The Sioux improved to 21-4 overall, while Augustana fell to 13-12, 8-9 in league play.

The game was decided in the first half when the Sioux defense held the Vikings to 13 points through the game's opening 17 minutes. With three minutes remaining in the half, UND held a 35-13 lead, its largest lead of the half.

In the second half, Augustana climbed to within 16, 37-21 after a Laura Hensley layup, but North Dakota answered with a 13-1 run to go up 50-22 with 12:05 to play. The Vikings wouldn't get closer than 24 points the rest of the way.

North Dakota won with balanced scoring on the offensive end. Junior Jenny Boll scored a game-high 20 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Junior Becky Moen added 19 points. Sophomore Marisa Leighton scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, the most by a Sioux player this season. Sophomore Mary Perrizo was the fourth double-figure scorer with 11 points.

Freshman Chelsea Hausauer got her fifth consecutive start for the Sioux. She didn't score in the game, but did grab six rebounds and handed out a season-high eight assists in 22 minutes of action. No other Sioux player had over five points.

Charissa Sheppard led Augustana with 12 points. She was the Vikings' only double-figure scorer.

The Sioux defense held Augustana to 27.3 percent shooting in the first half, limiting the Vikings to 9 of 33 shooting. UND shot 41.2 percent in the opening half, hitting 14 of 34 shots, 3 of 8 from 3-point range, to jump out to a 37-19 halftime lead.

North Dakota hit 16 of 17 free throw attempts for the game (.941), while Augustana struggled, hitting just 6 of 14 (.429).

Behind Leighton's 10 and Boll's 8, North Dakota held a 33-14 rebounding advantage at the half and increased the margin to 62-28 by game's end. The 62 was a season high and was just nine off the UND record of 71, set by the 1997 national champion team in a 97-48 victory over MSU-Mankato.

The Sioux can win their second consecutive NCC championship outright with a victory tomorrow night against South Dakota State. It would be their eighth league title since 1990. The number-one seed for next week's NCC Wells Fargo Finals will also be on the line. The winner of tomorrow night's game will be the number-one seed and host the final four next Friday and Saturday.
