Grand Forks, ND – The Fighting Sioux women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the North Central Conference Wells Fargo Finals on Friday night when UND defeated rival North Dakota State, 81-60, in front of 2,594 fans at Hyslop Sports Center. North Dakota had six players finish in double figures and dominated the boards, finishing with a 51-32 rebounding advantage. The Sioux will meet South Dakota State on Saturday night. SDSU was a 68-62 winner over South Dakota in the other semifinal game.

North Dakota improved to 23-4 with the victory; North Dakota State ended its season 18-10.

Junior Becky Moen, who was named the co-MVP of the NCC on Friday, finished with a game-high 21 points. She now has 610 points for the season, breaking Jenny Crouse's UND single-season scoring mark of 600. Juniors Jenny Boll and Trish Fleming and freshman Chelsea Hausauer all had 12 points, while sophomores Mary Perrizo and Marisa Leighton had 10 apiece.

Leighton led the rebounding attack, grabbing 15. The 6-0 forward has grabbed 37 boards in her last three games. Moen and Boll aided the cause with eight each.

Rebounding had played a key role in North Dakota State's two earlier wins over the Sioux. When the Bison won at Grand Forks on Jan. 4, NDSU had a 45-30 rebounding advantage. In the rematch in Fargo on Feb. 1, NDSU had a 48-38 edge.

The teams were back and forth in the early going, with North Dakota State taking its final lead of the game at the 9:51 mark, 19-17 on a jumper by Leah Klabo. A 3-point shot by Fleming put the Sioux ahead, 20-19, and they would have the lead the rest of the game.

NDSU was within one, 29-28, at the 5:38 mark, but UND closed the half on a 15-2 run to go to the locker room up 44-30.

Moen led North Dakota with 14 first-half points, while Leighton had nine of her rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bison got within 10, 48-38, at the 16:50 mark on an Angela Mayo jumper, but North Dakota scored the next seven points to take command of the game.

Perrizo hit 4 of 6 shots from the field, while Hausauer hit 5 of 6 as UND outshot the Bison, 43.3 percent to 37.1 percent.

For Hausauer, her 12 points represented a career high.

North Dakota swept the season series from South Dakota State (24-7), winning 82-70 at Brookings and 88-76 at Grand Forks last Saturday night.
