November 5, 2001 Grand Forks, ND — The University of North Dakota women's basketball team ran away from the University of Manitoba Bison for a 96-50 exhibition game win in Grand Forks on Monday night. The Sioux used superior quickness to harass Manitoba into 25 turnovers and a size advantage to dominate the boards, 57-30. The Sioux led 52-24 at the half.
Freshman Gina Britz (Shakopee, Minn.) not only led UND in scoring with 25 points, but she also added five assists, five steals, three rebounds and one block. She shot 9-for-14 from the field, 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Joining Britz in double figures were sophomore Mary Perrizo (Mandan, N.D.) with 13 points (plus seven assists, five rebounds and three steals), juniors Jenny Boll (Crookston, Minn.) and Janel Palbicki (Bloomington, Minn.) with 12 each and junior Becky Moen (Morris, Minn.) with 10.
Palbicki and Boll controlled the middle, finishing with 14 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Palbicki also had five blocks.
It was the lone exhibition game of the preseason for the Sioux, who went 29-4 last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II national championship game. Next up for UND is Fort Valley State (Ga.), which the Sioux will face in the opening round of the Florida Tech Tournament in Melbourne, Fla., on Nov. 16.
