Bemidji, MN — The University of North Dakota women's basketball team defeated Bemidji State, 94-75, on Friday night in the Sioux's final tuneup before they open North Central Conference play next weekend. Junior Becky Moen had her third impressive game in seven days, hitting 7-of-11 shots — 5-of-7 from 3-point range — to finish with a game-high 21 points. It was her third straight game with over 20 points. UND shot 61.3 percent in the first half to jump to a 53-31 halftime lead and improved to 5-0 with the win.

The Sioux never trailed as they jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, with scoring from four different players. One of those scoring was junior Trish Fleming, who hit her first two 3-point attempts in the game, something which bodes well for the Sioux with NCC play looming. The 5-10 junior, who was Division II's fourth-leading scorer last year while playing for IUPU-Fort Wayne, had sat out UND's two previous games with a back injury. On Friday night she appeared to be returning to form, finishing with 15 points in just 16 minutes of action.

Despite UND's quick start, the Beavers kept the game close and trailed just 25-20 with 9:50 to play. But the Sioux would answer with a 22-9 run to go up by 18, 47-29 with 2:23 to play. A 3-point shot by sophomore Mary Perrizo just before the buzzer put UND up 53-31 at the break.

The Sioux's second-half lead remained at least 20 points until 1:56 remained in the game. The Beavers would eventually narrow the lead, which had been as high as 27, 90-63, down to 17, 92-75, before a sophomore Tara Zoanni basket gave the Sioux their final margin of victory.

UND had a balanced scoring attack, led by Moen’s 21 points. Perrizo had 16 points, Fleming had 15, junior Jenny Boll had 14 and sophomore Marisa Leighton had 13.

Nine players played at least 10 minutes. Junior Megan Pick came off the bench to score five points, hitting both of her field goal attempts, and dish out four assists in 24 minutes of action.

UND shot 53.1 percent for the game, hitting 10-of-21 3-point tries. The Sioux narrowly outrebounded BSU, 34-33. Junior Janel Palbicki had a team-high five boards, while Moen, Perrizo and sophomore Kristi Kilander had four each.

UND, the lone unbeaten team in the NCC, will play at South Dakota State and Augustana next weekend, as conference play opens around the league.
