Grand Forks, ND – The University of North Dakota women's basketball team shot 59.4 percent in the first half of Tuesday's game against Minnesota-Duluth and went on to win, 84-62, in a rematch of last year's North Central Region final. Junior Becky Moen led UND to a 46-32 halftime lead by hitting 8-of-9 shots and finishing the first half with 18 points. Going back to UND's only other home game this season, against Jamestown, Moen's first game and a half at Hyslop Sports Center resulted in her hitting 18-of-23 field goals, 7-of-8 3-point field goals.

With the win, UND improves to 7-1 on the season. Minnesota-Duluth falls to 7-5.

UMD stayed close in the opening five minutes of the game, tying the score at 11 with 14:45 to play on Tanysha Scott’s layup, but the Sioux went on a 19-5 run over the next six minutes to grab a 30-16 lead. UND would hold a double figure lead the rest of the game.

In addition to her 18 first-half points, Moen had a game-high six rebounds and dished out three assists in the opening stanza. Junior Jenny Boll finished the first half with nine points, while junior Trish Fleming had seven.

A basket and free throw by Fleming with 8:15 to play in the second half gave the Sioux their largest lead of the game, 28 points, 73-45.

Moen finished with 25 points, hitting 11-of-17 field goals, and eight rebounds. Boll hit 6-of-10 shots and finished with 18 points, while Fleming was 7-for-10 to finish with 16 points. UND's five starters (Moen, Boll, Fleming, and sophomores Mary Perrizo and Marisa Leighton) combined to shoot 60.4 percent (29x48) for the game.

Junior Janel Palbicki finished with five points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in 21 minutes off the bench. She hit 3-of-3 from the free throw line for the game. Since going 0-for-2 from the line against Florida Tech, the 6-3 center has hit her last 13 tries from the charity stripe and now leads the team in free throw shooting at 88.2 percent (15x17).

UND held the Bulldogs to 33.3 percent shooting for the game. Kate Madrinich finished with 30 points, hitting 11-of-22 shots, but the rest of the team only hit 12-of-47 (.255) attempts.

It was the 23rd straight home win for the Sioux, currently the second longest home winning streak in Division II women’s basketball behind Northern Kentucky's 30.

North Dakota will not play again until the Sioux travel to Minnesota-Crookston on Thursday, Dec. 20, for a 7 p.m. game. UND will also play the next night, Friday, Dec. 21, against MSU-Moorhead, at 6 p.m. as the first half of a women’s/men’s doubleheader at Engelstad Arena. The men will face Minnesota-Crookston at 8 p.m.
