Grand Forks, ND - Junior Trish Fleming and sophomore Marisa Leighton each scored 20 points to lead the North Dakota Fighting Sioux to a 100-62 victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday night in front of 2,319 fans at Hyslop Sports Center. Juniors Becky Moen and Jenny Boll each added 14 as the Sioux shot 54.8 percent for the game while limiting the Mavericks to 35.5 percent. The Sioux were up 44-24 at the half and then exploded for 56 second-half points to improve to 11-1 on the season, 3-1 in the North Central Conference. Nebraska-Omaha fell to 4-10, 0-3 in league play.

Unlike Saturday night against Northern Colorado, when UND hit 15 of its first 22 shots to take a commanding early lead, the Sioux led by just two, 14-12, with 11:46 to play in the first half. But from that point, the Sioux would outscore the Mavericks 30-12 the rest of the half to go to the locker room up 44-24.

Leighton had 18 at the break, hitting 6-of-8 field goals and all five of her free throw attempts. She also grabbed seven first-half rebounds. Moen had 10 points and three blocked shots at the break, while Fleming had seven points. The Sioux hit 16-of-32 shots (.500) in the opening half while limiting UNO to 27.6 percent (8x29) shooting. Leighton's effort on the boards helped UND to an early 24-13 rebound advantage.

A basket by Lindsey Petersen brought UNO within 15, 48-33, with 16:53 to play, but the Sioux scored the next 15 points to take a commanding 63-33 lead, the final two points in the run coming from sophomore Mary Perrizo at the 13:12 mark.

UND led 75-51 with 7:20 to play when it had another big run. A freshman Gina Britz basket started a 19-2 run that put the Sioux up 94-53 with 2:14 to play. The only part of the game still in doubt would be whether North Dakota would hit the 100-point mark. After UNO's Anne Bomstad hit a basket with six seconds to play to make the score 98-62, Perrizo took the inbounds pass, drove the length of the floor and hit a running jumper from 15 feet at the buzzer to make the final score 100-62.

Fleming, Leighton, Moen and Boll combined for 68 points, hitting 23-of-37 shots. Britz finished with nine, while Perrizo and junior Janel Palbicki had eight.

UND held a 43-29 advantage on the boards and hit 27-of-32 free throw attempts (.844).

The victory was the 26th consecutive home-floor win for the Sioux, dating back to the 1999-00 season. The last team to down UND at home was North Dakota State, which beat North Dakota, 75-63, on Feb. 4, 2000. That same NDSU team will be the Sioux's next opponent, when they meet next Friday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.
