Debbout signs on to UND women's basketball team

Herald Staff Report

UND has signed Michelle Debbout to a national letter of intent Wednesday to play women's basketball.

Debbout, a 6-foot-2 center from DePere, Wis., led her conference in rebounding, averaging 13.9 rebounds per game to go along with her 8.5 points per game.

"Michelle runs the floor really well and she posts up extremely hard," UND coach Gene Roebuck said. "I think she'll fit our system very well. She plays with a lot of intensity and has the ability to be a quality player in our program."

Debbout's high school coach, Keith Coleman, said the best is yet to come. "She was not a scorer for us last year as we had two all-conference seniors who both are playing in college this season," Coleman said. "She is a late developer and I've always said she's going to be a better college player than a high school player."

UND, the defending Division II national champion, opens its season Saturday at home against Minnesota-Duluth. Before the game, UND's national championship banner will be unveiled.
