About Shane
- Shane was born on the 1st March 1978 in Toowoomba in Queensland.
- Shane joined South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2003 season after spending
eight years at Brisbane Broncos.
- He made his NRL debut at ANZ for Brisbane back in 1996 against
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
- He went on to play for Brisbane 83 times, scoring 5 tries during his time
with them. Shane's natural position is hooker, although he can slot in at
half-back if needed to do so.
- During his time at Brisbane he captained State of Origin hit Brisbane to a
famous win over Wests Tigers. The outfit that took the field that day
shocked many and became known as the "Baby Broncos".
- He played alongside brothers Ben and Chris whilst at Brisbane. Ben was the
first to leave, joining the Northern Eagles (the Manly Eagles and Norths
merged franchise). It was a successful move, with Ben finishing the top
points-scorer of the 2001 season before having an unsuccessful one season
stint in England with the Leeds Rhinos. He returned to Manly who had split
from Northern Eagles for the beginning of their comeback season in 2003.
Chris joined Shane in his journey south of the border but controversially
left the Rabbitohs mid-way through the season to join the Roosters. Shane
also has another brother, Luke Walker, Luke is the youngest of the four and
is currently with the Brisbane Broncos Colts side.
- Shane has yet to represent Queensland or his country. Ben was also
unfortunate to miss out on Queensland selection. Chris is the only one to
have gained major representative honours, representing Queensland 6 times.
- Sorry girls, Shane's spoken for. He tied the knot with wife, Katie, in the
2003 pre-season.
