The Impact of the Reign of Terror

In general, the impact of the Reign of Terror is only a small part of the impact of the French Revolution.
When Robespierre was forced out of his position by the townspeople and then later executed in the fashion that had killed so many citizens, it symbolized the height of the people's power over the government. Here a tyrant was ruling over them and murdering so many, and yet together, the people were able to stop Robespierre from causing further damage and death. This showed a great amount of power that was held by the people and a great amount of weakness on behalf of the government. This increase in the people's power frightened the government of France and of other surrounding countries' governments who feared that this rebellion of the people would spread to their own country. Through this exchange of power, the people were able to obtain more power and to have more dictation on their own lives.
Still many were left dead and murdered for no just reason. Many didn't even get a trial but died in the prisons.
Government wise, the Directory had been instated but was not as successful as hoped it would be.
So overall, the impact of the Reign of Terror was only a small part of the large impact of the French Revolution. With the drive for independence and freedom from the Reign of Terror, the people only fought to win the Revolution even more.
