| Resemblances between France and England in 1775 In both countries there were rulers who looked similar to each other and acted very similar to each other. "There were king with a large jaw, and a queen with a plain face, on the throne of Englandl; there were a king wiht a large jaw, and a queen with a fair face, on the throne of France." Both countries were enduring hard times, with war and revolution in both. Also in both countries there was corruption among the higher classes. "France... making money and then spending it." Both governments were totally involved in their own affairs that many people were being killed an injured because of stupid things they did or didn't do. "A youth to have his hands cut off, his tongue torn out with pincers, and his body burned alive because he had not kneeled down in the rain to do honour to a dirty procession of monks...from 60 miles away." Both countries were not at their highest moments and the lives of their peasants represent that greatly. |
