"Plain and simple, tax cuts don't work. The trickle-down theory of cutting taxes for the rich is just not something that works. It's a policy that needs to be changed. What needs to be done is a re-evaluation of the taxing of America. While this will end the tax breaks for the richest Americans, it might not change the tax payments of others. Instead, the way the tax is applied would be reevaluated in a way such that it would be easier to pay off the National Debt. This would decrease inflation, and if done correctly, more consumer confidence would well up, and with the creation of new jobs, lower and middle class Americans would have more money in their pockets. This would stimulate business, because of the rise in consumer confidence, as well as help to invest in the futures of the families in America, including college costs." "The No Child Left Behind policy is gradually dragging everyone down. No child is being left behind because the standards that schools put forth in order for a student to be considered proficient has dropped significantly. In the same way, testing yearly only gives teachers the opportunity to teach what is on the test, and not to teach what they went to school to teach. Both are policies that should be immediately repealed to better educate our youth. Their future as Americans should be brighter as they need to be taught to succeed, not be dragged down with bureacracy." "One of the faults of George W. Bush was that he eased restrictions on the pollution and logging laws that were enacted shortly before President Clinton left office. It is necessary to crack down on these relaxed requirements in order to better protect our most important natural resource: the environment." "In order to better protect our streets, it is required that we renew the Assault Weapons Ban that is most likely going to expire under the Bush administration. Keep the guns off the streets, and it better aids the police to do their jobs." "It's important to pressure drug companies to keep their prices low and affordable, especially for the elderly, whose fixed income does not always allow for the extra expenditure of prescription drugs. It's equally necessary to regulate the ability for companies to renew their patents on drugs that should be becoming over the counter medications."" "While the strength of our army is important, there are other ways to fight terrorism. Attacking first is not always the anser, and sometimes it does take a coalition effort to fight our enemies. Still, it is oftentimes better for everyone if America uses its tactical weapons like cruise missiles and air strikes to get its point accross than using troops. The lower the cost of human life, the better." "The time is now to invest in the futures of the Baby Boom generation as they approach retirement age. I propose investing some of the money now so that there will be even more of it later." "I believe that the income tax levels should be reset to reflect those that were enacted during the Clinton Administration. After all was said and done, there was a surplus." |
