Elite Boy 210 - 1970-1972

I bought this set for £5, about $8 US, at the same time as the C4200, in March 2000. Cosmetically flawed, with scratches on the aluminium trim, and some touching-up to the wood effect, which has probably worn with handling. Despite this, and the absence of a battery compartment cover, it works perfectly, with stunning bass thanks to the enormous speaker hidden within. This radio probably embodies why Grundig were superior to almost everything else. Compact, packed with features, an excellent receiver, and that classic "Grundig sound". And here we are, 30 years later, and despite signs of life in a real world, it still works perfectly, (even the bulb!) with no signs of repairs on the inside.
Car aerial sockets on portable radios were common in the 1960's, my Bush TR130 & KB Starlight Rhapsody both had them. But with typical Grundig attention to detail, this set, the first Grundig I've seen with such a socket, not only has a switch to select the car aerial, and deselect the internal aerials, but also a trim screw just above the socket, to match the aerial to the input stage for maximum sensitivity.
