in Europe/G2000A in North America (G2000B with black leather case - not
seen in Europe, and now discontinued) - 1997 - current
I bought this radio new in
December 2001. I finally succumbed! If you like Grundig radios, you have
to have this one! I then bought another in April 2006, see the review
for more details. The 2006 model is on the left, there are minor changes,
see the review.
Specification:
Styling: While most Grundig
radios are quite smart looking, this one almost makes the styling it's
reason for existing. Most of you have probably seen photos of it before,
but seeing it in person is something else again. It's smaller than it looks
in photos, it really does look like it's made of metal, though it is actually
plastic, (the finish looks substantial, not just a thin layer of paint,
however, there are durability issues, see the review)
and while it is a bit more "in your face" than the Yacht Boy 500, it's
still tasteful and stylish.
Many will buy it for it's
dramatic looks, and they won't be disappointed. It is at once futuristic
and retro, the latter point emphasised by the leather cover, which makes
it look like a book when fitted. The "Butter soft leather" description
seen in some US advertising is a bit misleading (It is smooth, but not
soft) but it is a nice touch which finishes the class act that is being
aimed at. It also offers real protection, if you droped it, chances are
the leather case will contact the ground first.
