Department
of Color
and Constitution of Organic Compounds is managed by Dr.
of
Chemical Sciences,
Prof. A.I. Tolmachev, the
author of 300 publications on the
chemistry
and properties of dyes.
Prof. A.I.Tolmachev together with leading scientist Dr.Yu.L.Slominkii
has developed the methods which allowed them to synthesize first
photochemically
and thermally stable polymeric dyes absorbing in the near IR region.
Department scientists have huge experience in the
design, modeling,
synthesis and practical use of nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur
- contained heterocycle derivatives, especiially polymethine dyes.
General
approach to thermal and photochemical stability of these dyes
was proposed. Correlations between chemical structure and optical
properties were found. New kinds of dyes were developed,
including active laser media, sensitizers
for infrachromatic photographic materials and fluoroscence probes for
biomembranes.
Designed different fluorophotochromic compounds.
Different dyes evaporable were synthesized.
Molecular design of the organic compounds
is carried out by Dr. A.D. Kachkovsky,
the author of the monograph dedicated
to theory of electron transitions in conjugated systems based
on quantum-chemical calculations for electronic structure of
molecules.
Original mathematical models of polymethines were developed and
a system of topological indices was used in molecular
design of new dyes. The theory of delocalized or cooperative and local
transitions has been evolved, the regularities have been investigated
in
changing the nature of long wavelength and higher-order transitions,
from the excited to the ground or other states (superabsorption).
Profs A.ToLmachev and
A.Kachkovsky are discussing dye solid film growth and properties as
function of their chemical structure with Drs. O.Dimitriev and D.Grynko.
