Our Scrapbook

SEPTEMBER 2003

KICKOFF - We kicked off the school year with a fun backyard campout, complete with hot-tubbing, card-playing, and very little sleep!!! (Just the way we like it!)

Our first high-adventure experience was also a great success! The weather was certainly questionable -- OK, it was pouring!! -- when we left town. As we arrived at our destination, it was still coming down in buckets. But Mother Nature smiled on us and as soon as we had unloaded our tubes and splashed one-by-one into the river, the sun peeked out. While we were lazily drifting down the Shenandoah river we caught glimpses of blue sky as well as a beautiful blue heron, a huge water snake, and nine splashing and giggling middle school girls.

Our guide, Tony, was a great help: holding capsized tubes while their wet and wayward riders tried to re-load from the river, rescuing someone who discovered a rope swing (only to find that her tube wasn't interested), guiding us around rocks, and getting everyone off at the right exit!

OCTOBER 2003

APPLE GLEANING - On Sunday, October 5th, 2003, 7 girls from our team gathered at Crooked Run Orchard in Purcellville for an Apple Gleaning project. Since you asked..."GLEAN - v. - To gather (grain) left behind by reapers." We picked through all of the apples that had fallen from the trees to find the good ones, bagged them, and loaded them for delivery at Interfaith Relief in Leesburg. The apples will help feed hungry people right here in our own county and are much appreciated. Thanks to Emily, Jennifer, Sarah, Megan, Libby, Tori, and Morgan for participating. Thanks to Tori's and Megan's Dads for coming with us and BIG THANKS to Mr. C and Megan who kindof got "stuck" with the delivery and unloading since they had a truck.

And... Check it out... Our own Sarah got her picture in the Loudoun Times-Mirror!

NOVEMBER 2003

BLANKET DRIVE - For one of our November Service Projects we collected almost 40 old blankets and towels which were donated to the Blue Ridge Veterinary Hospital. Thanks to Haley, Morgan, and Tess for sorting and folding, Mrs. R for hauling and storing them, and Mrs. M for helping deliver them. Great team effort!

STICKY FINGERS CRAFTS - We completed our first fundraiser inviting neighborhood children to make Thanksgiving Crafts.
