The Senior Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award on the girl level of Girl Scouting.
It is the Girl Scouts equivalent to the Boy Scouts Eagle Award. If you've choosen to undertake this
challenge, congratulations! If you are still thinking about it, we hope you can find some information
that may help you out here.
There are several pre-requisites that must be completed before you begin your actual project.
These include:
|
Four IPPs that will relate in some way to your project.
Earning the Career Exploration Pin.
Earning the Senior GS Leadership Award.
Earning the Senior Girl Scout Challenge.
|
After these are done (in any order), you may begin to work on your Gold Award Project.
The project should take fifty hours from planning to completion. This is a bit more intense
than the Silver Award project is. One of the main differences is that it should be done outside of
Girl Scouting, or it should have a large impact on the community outside of Girl Scouts. This is your
chance to use all the skills you have learned over the years to benefit your community in a way
that means something to you.
Montachusett Girl Scout Council offers several Gold Award Training dates for interested girls. These
"trainings" provide you with a clearer explanation of the Gold and what going for the Gold actually
involves. The first step is to fill out the proper paperwork from Council. Your leader can get this for you,
or you may contact Council to have it sent to you. You then return this to Council and they will review it.
After this, you will be called in to go before a board to discuss your project. This isn't meant to be a
scary experience, or to try to convince you not to go for the Gold. Instead, it will help show Council what you
plan on doing and how it will benefit your community. After your project has been approved, you will be assigned
an advisor that you need to meet with regularly. Finally, after a lot of hard work and determination,
you will be eligable to recieve the Gold Award at a Council-wide Ceremony held each May.
The chance to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award is open to any Senior Girl Scout who wishes to earn it.
We encourage everyone to take a chance, and give it your best. Good luck!
