My First Big Adventure:
Wyoming Trek
Although it wasn't a Wider Op in the broad sense of the word, Wyoming Trek was my first big trip as a Scout.   I had already been all over the eastern US on Girl Scout trips, but this was my first journey across the Mississippi, & the first trip that I wouldn't have anyone else from my troop with me.  I was twelve when Mom & Dad put me on that bus headed across the country for my three week trip.  It was fantastic.  Here are just a few of the things I got to do:

Go whitewater rafting down the Snake River (see picture below)

Shop at Wall Drug in South Dakota

See Mt. Rushmore, camp in the Black Hills, & see other new places.

Spend over a week at beautiful National Center West, a Girl Scout center in Ten Sleep,                       Wyoming that  has since been sold. I liked it so much that I applied for a National Wider Opportunity there the next  year & was accepted!

Meet new people, both from my council & from other councils across the country.

Rafting down the Snake River.  I was one of the brave souls in the front of the raft, even though I couldn't swim!
