[Kelfour's, Bazaar]
This is the broad open area before the tents. The press of crowds and
the frantic activity here make you want to get on with your business
and to be extremely wary of pickpockets. You also see a promenade
leading the the Town Bazaar, a large sign, a large tent, a green tent,
a yellow tent, a red striped tent, a red sign, a yellow sign and a
green sign.
Also here: Glynn.
Obvious paths: south.

[General Notes:
Nothing has been edited/deleted from this capture! This is ALL the activity
in the newbie auction tent. There's no more than half a dozen of us present.
I only won the bidding because everyone else had already reached his or her
item limit. I had about 8,000 coins to my name at the time, so buying this
basically used up my life's savings for this newly re-rolled character. I
never did figure out everything the Caduceus did. I sold it the a couple of
days later to Lord Kodos for the huge amount (at the time) of 75,000 coins,
which was more money than I had seen in months of playing. I hope he got his
money's worth!]
[Auction Notes:
I believe this is either the August 1993 or August 1994 GEnie Hot Summer
Nights Auction. As I recall, the auction limit was set at either one or two
items per character. From what I can remember, the tents where levels 1-5,
6-10, 11-15, 16-20, and 20+ to handle the games few Lords and Ladies. There
where more items than there where players, so basically if you showed up you
where eventually bound to get something.
The expectation of getting an item at an auction was not an unreasonable one
at that time. After all, it cost this average player a couple hundred dollars
US for the privilege. (Basic Genie hourly rate for 300-1200 baud access, 2400
baud premium connection surcharge, daytime access surcharge, toll call due to
not having a local access number, etc. easily brought my bill to over $20 an
hour at times, and a couple hundred dollars to play an entire weekend.) To
replicate this in today's GemStone III, imagine having an auction run like
they currently do game quests, where the entrance ticket cost you $200.00 US,
but you where guaranteed at least one unique item over the course of the
weekend in return.]
