English Professor represented the RUM in two International conferences

Professor Georgia Smyrniou represented the RUM in the 4th International conference on Information Communication Technologies in Education. In the same conference the University of Sagrado Corazón presented its succesful on line distance education program and its representatives Iliana Ballester Panelli and Sylvia Alvarez Ramos were invited by proffesor Smyrniou to present their work in the RUM the coming semester.

From Samos Island to Athens, professor Smyrniou also represented the RUM in the World Wide Conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers with emphasis on Advanced Learning Technologies. She also had the opportunity to meet during the conference with Cathleen Norris and Eliot Soloway leading figures in Technology Integration in schools in the USA.

She discussed with them the issue of infra-structural problems in using pilot devices in Puerto Rican classrooms and how a US leading computer company in Puerto Rico could be involved in such a project. She also met with enginners Erik Duval (Belgium) and Kinshuk (Australia) specializing in metadata and learning objects as well as with carlos Oliveira, The European Community commisioner in Technology and Education.

In addition, professor Smyrniou was invited by the Information Laboratory of the University of Maine in France to participate in a common project in " Intelligent Agents and Knowledge Systems in Education" starting this semester.
