COLLEGE TUITION THE PAYOFF IN "WINTUITION" |
Game Show Network (GSN) has ordered 40 episodes
of "Wintuition," the knowledge-based game that
tests contestants' general education smarts from
the first grade through college and offers a
chance to win $50,000 towards their college
tuition, it was announced today by Bob Boden,
senior vice president, programming.
LMNO Cable Group, Henry Winkler and Sugar Bros.
Entertainment will executive produce the new
education-themed game show, which consists of
three contestants competing against each other
in a Q&A format.
"'Wintuition' is a clever way of giving people a
chance to win a prize that is beneficial to
their education," said Mr. Boden. "Game Show
Network is pleased to support a format which
promises a rewarding opportunity. The show is
also a fun way for our audience to test what
they remember from their school years."
"Wintuition" is the only game show that turns
"knowledge into college." Three contestants are
taken on a crash course as they speed through
the first two rounds of general education
questions beginning with first grade through
middle school. In the third round, the two
contestants with the highest scores put their
high school intellect to the test. They compete
for a chance to move into the final round where
the champion could win $50,000 of tuition money. |
KNOWLEDGE, MEMORY PUT TO THE TEST IN "CRAM"
JANUARY 2003 |
Game
Show Network (GSN) has ordered 40 episodes of
CRAM, the non-stop question and answer game show
that puts contestants to the ultimate test of
endurance, memory and multi-tasking, it was
announced today by Bob Boden, senior vice
president, programming. James Rowley will
executive produce and Graham Elwood (USA's
"Strip Poker"), who is represented by The
Paradise Group, will host.
In the show, all the answers are given, but can
the players recall them after 24-hours of
non-stop cramming, without any sleep? CRAM is
executive produced by Jonathan Goodson and Mark
Cronin.
"This high energy, off-beat quizzer represents
Game Show Network's dedication to new and edgy
original game shows. Following the success of
'Russian Roulette' and 'Friend or Foe,' I feel
GSN is headed in the right
direction and I highly anticipate CRAM will
appeal to all our viewers," said Boden.
CRAM consists of two teams of two players locked
in separate study chambers for 24 hours. They
must resist the urge to sleep while trying to
retain as much information as possible from a
huge array of study
materials. So random is the material that it can
range from news magazines, books of riddles,
instruction manuals for menial tasks, and lists
of useless facts. The game consists of four
rounds in which players
are quizzed on the reading material provided the
previous day. The catch, in an attempt to drain
as much energy as possible from the exhausted
contestants, is that the questions come in a
rapid-fire style
while the contestants are engaged in various
physical stunts. The teams try to eliminate each
other by earning as many points as possible, win
$10,000. |

GAME SHOW... IN A BOX? |
Game
Show Network's Marketing Department has
pioneered a portable unit that brings the fun
and action of game show playing virtually
anywhere. The unit, "Game Show in a Box,"
features two player desks, a host podium, sound
effects, a buzzer and even a host's blazer to
replicate real game show playing at any
location.
The unit will be used to shoot short-form
programming and event promotions for the
network.
In making the announcement, Dena Kaplan, senior
vice president, marketing, GSN said: "'Game Show
in a Box' will enable us to shoot original
short-form programming at remote locations
around the country and in any game format. 'Game
Show in a Box' is not only an excellent vehicle
to produce games that captures the true spirit
and history specific to that geographic location
but an opportunity to do localized co-branded
games with our affiliates."
Ken Warun, vice president, creative director,
GSN, added: "We are excited to begin using the
box immediately for it will bring a new fresh
look to game shows which are typically shot on
studio soundstages. The portability also allows
us to take advantage of interesting surroundings
and local residents. The programming
opportunities associated with 'The Box' are as
endless as the formats we can play for the
game."
"Game Show in a Box" will be launched in Boston
as part of the CTAM Conference July 15-17. 'The
Box' will be in operation at local landmarks
such as Fenway Park, Harvard Square, Boston
Commons and Faneuil Hall. |
GSN,
CHARTER, AND GAMEWORKS TEAM FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
PROMOTION |
Game Show Network (GSN), the cable network
devoted exclusively to game shows and
interactive game play, and GameWorks, eat,
drink, party and play, are partnering with
Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) in
Fort Worth, TX and Ontario, CA to sponsor a
locally integrated customer service promotion.
The promotion incorporates Charter's customers
and GSN's marketing initiatives through
GameWorks' locations.
Charter
Communications and Game Show Network crafted
this promotion with GameWorks in support of
Charter's customer appreciation month.
This initiative is promoted via cross-channel
spots on Charter systems and with certificates
in cable bill inserts. The certificate
gives Charter customers one-hour of free game
play at GameWorks. The promotion also
provides GSN with an opportunity to promote and
play live games at GameWorks.
In making the
announcement, Dena Kaplan, Senior Vice President
of Marketing, GSN, said: "We are very pleased to
be working with our colleagues at Charter
Communications and our marketing partner,
GameWorks, to produce this customer service
promotion for Charter customers in these two
important
markets. This promotion complements our
brand perfectly as well as our partners' and we
are excited to be able to showcase our new
original programming to Charter's customers."
"This promotion
offers Charter a fun way to thank our customers
for their business and for them to spend some
time with their family members and friends,"
said Wayne Davis, Charter's Vice President of
Operations. "Game Show Network offers our
customers high-quality programming that adds
more
variety to our local channel lineup. We're
proud to be able to partner with them in this
unique promotion."
"We are excited to
provide a thematic venue to host this
multi-faceted promotion in these two key
markets," said Clint Manny, VP, Marketing,
GameWorks. "GameWorks is a prime location
to drive awareness and produce fun for GSN's key
viewers."
The promotion is a
three-pronged event beginning with customized
certificates which are inserted in the monthly
bills of Charter Communications customers in the
surrounding areas of Grapevine and Ontario.
These certificates are good for one hour of free
video game play when redeemed at the GameWorks
venues in Grapeville Mills Mall and Ontario
Mills Mall during an allotted time period.
The second phase of
the promotion encompasses the certificate's
redemption at the respective GameWorks venues.
The back side of the certificate doubles as a
sweepstakes entry form. Customers who
place the coupon in specially marked boxes at
the GameWorks venue will be entered into a
drawing for a chance to win tickets to a VIP
party at GameWorks.
This VIP party is an
exclusive Charter/Game Show Network event at
GameWorks, including three hours of free game
playing, appetizers and beverages for the
winners and a guest. The VIP Party will
feature live game show playing of such GSN hits
as "Friend or Foe?" In addition, the VIP
party will present opportunities for all party
guests to win prizes such as Sony Electronics
and other Game Show Network customized items.
GSN is awarding 300 VIP party
invitations to eligible winners in Grapevine and
150 in Ontario. The sweepstakes is limited
to one prize per household and entrants must be
18 years or older to play. The VIP event
will be attended by local celebrities and cable
executives and will take place on Wednesday,
July 17 in Grapevine and Tuesday, August 27 in
Ontario.
