The main reason of its existence is my ardent desire to actually make my worthy readers acquainted with some of the music reviewed. After all, what good is a review? Just dry, meaningless combinations of lexemes (not to mention that on the current site they come out of the mind of a person who's not a musician himself). On the other hand, due to certain legal (copyright) and technical (web space) problems, I can hardly allow myself to accompany every review of mine with a respectable MP3 or .WAV selection; and I don't really care much for thirty-second snippets that just give you an instantaneous taster of the song and then go away. In any case, please go to the Amazon.com or CDNow servers for these snippets.

So I ended up with a compromise. Starting from now on (March 8, 2000 - hey, let this be considered, in the immortal words of Mr Lou Reed, 'a gift to the women of this world'), I'll be putting two, and only two, songs in MP3 format on this site; everybody is welcome to download them and listen to them, although, of course, it goes without saying that you must delete what you heard afterwards, or we'll all get in trouble (wink: get out your tape recorders!!). I certainly will not 'publish' well-known material like 'Satisfaction' or even 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' on here; what I'm trying to do is get people acquainted with music that's, roughly speaking, 'underrated' by radio stations and CD stores. Some of these songs will be more or less known, others will probably be completely obscure - but I won't be publishing any open crap, I assure you. DISCLAIMER: these songs will not necessarily be 'great' or 'awesome' or anything like that. Just good, interesting songs that I don't feel everybody knows about but I would feel better if everybody knew about.

I started out with one song, but then I considered that at this rate this stuff will take forever - and I do want some progress. On the other hand, web space is not something limitless, so I suppose that two songs will be enough. It will go like this: one song from the 'oldies' - records reviewed long before March 8, 2000, and one song from the 'new stuff' - records I've only reviewed currently.

The songs will be present on the site for exactly one week (unless something special occurs - for instance, I die and then everybody will be stumped). After that it will be deleted and replaced by the following one. Important note: I Do Not Take Requests for the 'oldies'. Not now, at least. I have a little list of about fifty songs prepared already, so if you have a request, it'll have to wait for about a year.

I would also like you to mail me your comments about particular songs in question - it would be a great thing to get something like that going. You could just tell me your impressions, and I could just post them, and everybody would be happy. (Gee, I feel so clever, I guess I'll go join the Parliament after all. Tee hee). You could mail me your thoughts even if you do have the song already, in an MP3 or non-MP3 format - it's not obligatory to share only the 'first impressions'.

Instructions: the songs are downloadable by any normal plug-in if you follow the link from the song title. Following the link from the title of the album where the song is taken from will immediately take you to the corresponding album review.
If you're not too familiar with the principles of MP3, I'll just warn you that (a) in order to play the file you need a suitable MP3 player like WinAmp, or a recent enough version of RealAudio Player (all of these things can be easily downloaded on the Web, for instance, through www.download.com). Also, MP3 files tend to eat up much space - so if your Internet connection is painfully slow, you might want to either optimize it or skip this stuff at all. In any case, I'll always be indicating the exact size of the downloadable file for you. (Hint: the files can also be downloaded partially, with later resuming, by means of some resume-allowing program like Getright.exe).
