George then attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, just between San Antonio & Austin, Texas. After a couple of semesters there he enlisted into the Army for a 3-year hitch. (how many fans out there knew that?) Love George in that cowboy hat can you just see him in a uniform? MMMM....He was shipped to Hawaii. His wife the beautiful Norma Strait joined him there.
His family life which he keeps to himself (I don't blame him) is very important to him. Even the loss of his 13 year old daughter Jenifer from a car accident in San Marcos, Texas George never talked about his feelings with the press about his loss. Everyone knew how he was hurting. But George went on with his music not wanting to disappoint his fans.
With the following under his belt you can see that George Strait is the
king of country music yesterday, today, & tomorrow. His music will live on
forever. These are just a few of George's on going career in the music
business. 24 Platinum albums....more then any other country act, 36 #1 singles
on the Billboard charts, 50 CMA Award nominations...a record.
Pure Country which began filming on May 7, 1992 is by far my all time favorite movie. It was filmed in Fort Worth & Waxahachie, Texas and in Las Vegas. The movie which starred George Strait, Lesley Ann Warren & Isabel Glasser was released October 23 and was #6 at the box office the week it opened. The film critics were very good to George. Said he had promise. (of course we all knew that). His son George Strait Jr. also known as "Bubba" sang with his daddy the song Heartland. Bubba was only 11 years old at the time.
How about George's great band members "Ace in the hole" Benny McArthur, Rick McRae, David Anthony, Phillip Fajardo, Terry Hale, Ronnie Huckaby, Mike Daily & Gene Elders. What a wonderful group of musicians.
