Background:
I bought my M3 in December 2001 privately
from the original owner in Atlanta, GA. Reason for sale is
that after starting my job as a field engineer in February 2002, I started
traveling much more than I expected, especially on weekends, and the car
is mostly parked. Presently the car resides in Miami Lakes
Fl, at my dad's house.
Back when looking for this car I spent a long time searching the web and classifieds for the private sale of a meticulously kept 4 door M3 thinking that I'd keep it until it dies. At first I was was looking for artic silver but changed my mind after actually seeing the Estoril on a four door. I also looked to see how smoothly the owner drove the car when taking it for a test drive. The original owner was a chemical engineer in his late forties, kept the car in top condition, and drove it much better than anyone else I'd been out with in a 5 speed M3. He had all of the papers on the car from day one including the window sticker and BMW service receipts. Finally his reason for selling the car was legitimate in that he had a brand new 540i 6 speed sitting in the garage needing to be paid off.
Everything is original except for a K&N filter and switching over to Mobil 1 synthetic oil, which I performed back in the summer of 2002. I have all the paper work on the car and receipts from the original owner to me. The VIN is WBSCD9323WEE07577 which you can check through CARFAX. I had it thoroughly inspected back in the day during my purchase at ~39k with no problems after Inspection II. Most of the 13k miles acquired on the car by me in 2002 when driving it down to Miami FL from Atlanta GA a few times. The CARFAX report also rightfully documents that the original owner had the car as a lease vehicle, took it to New Jersey, returned to Atlanta, bought out the lease, and sold it to me. Addresses and mileage reports on all the service invoices and emissions tests can validate this.
Options beyond standard 1998
M3 package:
5 speed, power front seats, onboard computer,
a sunroof, cruise control, traction control, staggered M Double 10 spoke
wheels.
Everything in the car is original. I did however, wire up a amplifier and CD player in the car that I removed. I can email a photo to show you what I did for reference. I used existing holes in the back cross frame to hold the amp and covered it accordingly by myself. Actually I didn't mind not having the fold down seats because they made the amplifier addition possible and in a way completely sealed the trunk from break in. I've also heard the cross frame supposedly makes the frame stiffer?
As far as exterior condition
only two things comes to mind:
The original owner straight out told me that
he had the left rear door repainted and left side skirt replaced after
scrapping the side of the car with a tree branch. I got his receipt
from the work done by a BMW dealer up in New Jersey to validate his story
before I bought the car. The door is original. Also as I found
out with other cars, CARFAX, as you may already know doesnt always tell
everything.
The second item is a small dime sized dent on the rear trunk lid.
It was always garaged up until last September when I left it in Miami. There I got a BMW car cover as shown above.
Interior condition is excellent:
There is only slight wear on the drivers left
side bolster from getting in and out. The passenger and rear seats
are basically unused. Used Lexol to maintain leather. I've
also continued to keep the engine compartment super clean by hand.
Wiping it down etc. The door jams are also wiped every wash.
I could use a new front mat driver's side however, carpet underneath is
perfect. The trunk is also fine and the spare is truly unused with a factory
225 by 17" Michelin on a M double spoke rim.
Tire, rim, and brake condition:
The rear tires were just replaced by the original
owner at around ~39k. In my opinion they're still amazingly new.
The fronts are slightly older but still above the wear line mark of the
tire. As far as rim condition I there is only a nick in the right
front rim, the rest are fine.
Brakes are not a concern because they just got replaced 4/12/2003 with brand new OEM spec rotors and pads. This included a brake flush and new wear sensors front and rear. Check brake light came on about two weekends ago at 52,5k miles and I ordered a new set of hardware from Turner Motorsport. Old rotors are reusable with no warping and will be included in sale.
In Summary:
The car runs excellent and no complaints.
I have all the original receipts from day including oil changes, inspections
I and II, window sticker, and inspection of when I bought the car.
I refused to buy a M3 back when I bought it from a owner who didn't have
paper work. I'm also okay with anyone taking it to be inspected by
a certified BMW shop. Probably Braman BMW in Miami for about ~$200.
I changed the oil on 11/21/02 with Mobil 1 again and my dad rolls the over inflated tires every week so as not to get flat spots. The underbody has been personally cleaned with Simple Green back around New Years 2003 and I personally flushed and replaced the coolant at the begining of February 2003 with BMW fluid. Should be good for another 3 years. This included draining the actual engine block, not just the radiator. The brakes are all new and includes a flush with blue new fluid.
Let me know if you have any other questions or want other pictures. I do own the car outright and there's no problems with the title. I'm hoping to reasonably sell the car around $22750 and it comes with Lo-Jack and wheel locking lugs.
