Update May. 9, '04:
Glory of Glories...The First Ever Real, Full-Length, At a Bar-type place,
Remnants of the Human Race show is happening TOMORROW at
Eleven's in Northampton at 10:00! It's free too, which is good for anyone
who stumbles in, but bad for us cause we don't get paid...
Believe me, it will be fantabulous, and also the last chance you'll have to
see this outfit until god knows when! So get yer asses in gear!
Update May. 1, '04:
Well, the show was awesome. It was quite fun to hob-nob with the stars
and such (my definitition of hob-nobbing being: "standing in the corner
and watching them walk by"). I was hoping to meet some kind of record
exec. or at least some rabid fans but unfortunately the night ended on a
lonely note, ah well...
BUT!...The 'Malibu (and possibly the Remnants opening?) is having a CD
release party on FRIDAY, MAY 14, at the Apollo Grill, just before I leave
this accursed town for greener pastures, so be there and/or be square!
This may very well be the last update for the summer as I wont be near
any computers or musical instruments/recording devices down on the
island (of Nantucket)...So fare thee well to all the people who seem to
regularly check up on this site for some bizarre reason...
Update Apr. 29, '04:
Just a short note that I'm going to be playing with the 'Malibu in the biggest
show I'll probably ever play in my life tomorrow at John M. Greene hall/
Smith College opening for the likes of Sonic Youth, Sebadoh, J. Mascis
etc. Tickets are available all around the area and probably at the door for
$18, doors open at 5:00, show starts at 6:00 and we're on at 7:00 or so...
Update Apr. 23, '04:
Well, here it is, the official website of The Remnants(etc. etc.),
as it was fated to become...
Things have been going a little slow on the
"gigging"/recording front, but I have written some more new tunes.
I just recorded an older song of mine that I'll try to put up tomorrow:
"Alexie and the Sea of People" based on an illustrated short story idea I had about a boy
who is growing up on the Earth many hundreds of years in the future, where the world
has ended up a gigantic inky black ocean filled with mutated human beings that feed
off each other. The song is supposed to be from his point of view after he swims out into
the Sea of People to find a home and a mate but ends up on a stormy rock in the middle of nowhere.
Update Apr. 3, '04:
Hey Northampton! A new socio-political march that I would love to play on the steps of town hall...
It's still in the works, but the rough sketch can be heard on the main page
Up tomorrow, another new one: This Holy Roman Empire was built on the backs of little girls
...For lack of a better name or a better song...but hey, it's got accordion!
Also personal news...I'll probably be moving to Nantucket in May to work off my tremendous debts;
being slave labor for rich white people, in hopes that some of their gold will trickle down to me...
Update Mar. 24, '04:
After 2 open mics and one unlisted stint as an opening act, Adrian and The Snakeman
have finally hit the scene and have been invited to submit a demo tape at the oh-so-prestigious
11's "nightclub" (which was formerly called Harry's)
To celebrate, I've put up some pictures from the show tonight.
Me and The Snakeman lounging about in the fatigues of rock.
This was, unfortunately, the least blurry stage shot.
Look for us in the near future at fine local music venues, possibly under the name The Remnants of the Human Race...?
Update Mar. 3, '04:
A newly written and recorded song is up and running!
Probably the first anti-war song I've written...
Well, no more phone calls or e-mails but I'm cranking out more songs at a pretty steady clip.
I guess it's this awful weather we've been having...I wish it was cold again so I could go into
town and not have to look at all these people who used to be holed up in their houses.
Now they come out in their old navy shirts, skimpy halter tops and baseball caps...
It makes me want to clench my fist, shake it at the sky and start a revolution.
I've got about 11 songs written for my first solo album "Songs For Boys" which I'm going
to try to record in the next few months. I'm planning on making a not-for-legal-sale
limited edition with Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link graphics and gold spray painted jewel
cases (like Link when it first came out). Then a normal copy with different graphics,
cardboard sleeves and in larger quantity.
I think the thing to start doing is open mic's or playing on the street just to get a little
practice with the songs and advanced local interest in the music. The war has begun
but the battle has yet to start...
Update Feb. 23, '04:
So far, 2 people have contacted me. I had a preliminary jam thing with the first person who called
which came out ok, so hopefully more of you will be interested in calling or e-mailing.
A basic set I've put together is something like:
Originals:
Bringing Society Down
Never Had Anyone
Girlfriend = Square
Cold and Lonely Glacier
Queen of America
Crush (an 8th grade love song)
Covers:
Antmusic by Adam Ant
Cheer up, Charlie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Jumping Someone Else's Train by The Cure
Back of a Car by Big Star
and possibly a Duran Duran cover The Chauffeur or Planet Earth or some such?
Honestly, I didn't expect much of a showing very fast with the flyers but it's got me to thinking a little more
of maybe doing my originals solo and either trying to start or join a decent 80's cover band if not too many
more people show an interest in this whole project. That or a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory tribute band...
(I assure you, this is just a phase :p but that is such a wonderful movie, really!)
At this point, I'm still looking for a keyboardist(!), and a bassist to flesh this whole thing out.
Singing is cool too, come to think of it. Ultimately, it would be cool to have a line-up of say the
2 keyboards, bass and drums, though I still have these few guitar songs to deal with. It seems
best to ease people (including myself) into a completely synth based band with guitar, as most
people haven't been accustomed to hearing pure synth-pop bands since the mid 80's :p
