The story begins about a month and a half after the disaster at the mansion lab. Umbrella Corp develops the T-virus, a muta-genic toxin for the use in biological weapons. After breaking loose, living things mutate into all sorts of decaying creatures. The case was eventually closed, but Umbrella's experience was far from over. Now it's the worst possible nightmare: a new virus runs rampant. All of Raccoon City is infested. Blood-thirsty zombies, hideous mutations now overwhelm the community. When Leon and Claire arrive in town their nightmare is just beginning. You must control their destiny. If the suspense doesn't kill you, something else will.
In RE2, you can play as either rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield, who is Chris Redfield's little sister. Playing through as both characters gets you a different look on both sides of the story. As Claire, you find the young Sherry Birkin. Sherry is the 12-year old daughter of Umbrella scientist William Birkin (this is the guy who created the G-Virus). As Leon, you meet the mysterious Ada Wong. I can't tell you who she is, because that would be telling.
This game has some interesting secrets to lock. One such secret is the ability to play through a little mini-game as Hunk. Hunk is part of a group of 4 agents sent in by Umbrella to retrieve the G-Virus from William Birkin. Birkin kills 3 of these agents, but Hunk escapes with a G-Virus sample.
The 2nd little secret is Tofu. Which means you get to play through Hunk's mini-game as a giant, knife-wielding block of Tofu. This block of Tofu turns red as it takes damage. Sounds odd, but it is difficult to kill zombies with just a knife...
