Tone

    Throughout Fitts and Fitzgerald’s translation of Ode 1 of Antigone are distinct words to help develop the tone through the play write. The author, Sophocles, uses words such as inexhaustible, tamed, secure, and anarchic to give the reader an idea of the tone. In strophe #1 of Ode 1, Inexhaustible signifies the unlimited will of man and the idea of determination. Sophocles tamed uses in the play write to describe man as being under control, restrained, and disciplined with what they are doing. Secure symbolizes shelter, safeness, and protection from anything other than man itself. In the antistrophe 2 of Antigone, anarchic is used to describe a lawless man.
