Julius Caesar
- Brutus
loves honor and is noble
- Easily
persuaded
- Gullible
(Brutus doesn’t recognize that Cassius is doing the same thing to him)
- Brutus
knows of no reason to kill Caesar so he decides to kill him.
- Brutus
is comparing Caesar to an adder (poisonous snake)
- If
we put a crown on Caesar’s head, we could give him power
- People
act humble when they want to get somewhere
- Ladder
of Success: Made up of people’s bodies. The only way you climb up the
ladder is by stepping over the bodies. Once you reach the top of the ladder,
you scorn at people.
- Once
you reach the top of the ladder, you can only go down. (The fall) This makes
a tragedy.
- Brutus
is a logical and honorable man but here he is illogical in killing Caesar.
- Brutus
is basing things on logical fallacy. Brutus’s mind is being perverted by
cassius.
- The
renaissance: The ideal Renaissance man ( 3 parts): Head (any images,
intellect, reason), Heart (love, emotions), and Hand or Spleen (passions,
violence, anger, bloody
- The
part of the body where we should be controlled by is the head. If we let our
heart control us we will get nowhere.
- Dreams
are hideous, and Brutus has a guilty conscience. Brutus is moral but he is
going against what he is doing.
- Brutus
says that these guys should not take an oath. Cicero is the finest speaker
in Rome. Brutus doesn’t want Cicero. Brutus says Caesar is the head and
Antony is the muscle. This isn’t a good decision. If you’re going to be
immoral once, you might as well keep killing. Brutus wants to kill Caesar
gracefully.
- Everyone
in the group is listening to the most noble.
- There
is another Brutus in the group. ( Decius Brutus: will convince Caesar to go
to the Capitol.)
- Portia
(the wife of Brutus) , is a roman woman. The relationship between them is
fine.
- Brutus
loves his wife.
- Calpernia
(the wife of Caesar) has been dreaming. She is dreams that he is a fountain
spouting blood.
- Caesar:
self involved, conceded, proud, ambitious,
- “Cowards
die many times before their deaths.”- Caesar. A little part of him gets
torn off if he stays home.
- Caesar wont tell the senate why he won't go.
- Decius Brutus convinces Caesar to go to the senate.
- DB: tells Calpernia that she misinterpreted the dream.
