Poem Analysis of
"LOVE WITHOUT LOVE" and "THE TAXI"
Simile:
- "And, like the bird on its branch, land in my arms only to rest," : This simile expresses the feelings the speaker is having. He wishes that he can hold his spouse in his arms and love her and rest with her. Like the bird, she will fly away sometimes.
-"The world beats dead like a slackened drum..." Tells of the woman's heart beating very slowly wishing that the man in the taxi could fall in her arms and love her.
2. The speaker's choice of images says that the speaker doesn't want a romantic love but he wants a love of the mind and soul. He wants to be connected with his spouse.
2. The speaker's feelings about love is that you can't live without it and everyone needs it. Love is precious and leaving his love is like killing a soul.
3. I think the taxi is a great title for this poem because taxi's represent fast paced, loudness, and meaningless. On the other hand, the love that this speaker has for his lover is true and romantic.
