Varda read the note for the fifth time,

Varda
I wish to discuss matters of great importance with you. You know already what those matters are, so I will not repeat them in this note. Meet me at the first beach from the Eastern Gate of Moorgate at daybreak. What we speak of should be away from the ears of others.

Alexander

Varda gazed out to sea, the wind was cold and it blew her hair into her face. Was this a fool's errand? Could she trust this one? He was a Child of Light, but what did that mean when dealing with the Heart of Creation. She would be weary.

The sun started to rise above the water and it sent tendrils of fire across the waves. The sun brought warmth and hope. Varda smiled.

"The sight of the sun rising always fills my heart with hope"

Varda gazed over her shoulder and there was the Ranger a dozen paces behind her and to her right. He is dressed in his usual steel armour, plain and functional, although his helmet had been removed. His bow was slung across his back, and there was no sign of his mount. Alexander smiled at the sight of the sun, then turned to gaze at Varda. The smile remains but a seriousness crossed his eyes.

"Varda, you know what I seek. The riddle to gain a piece of the Heart. But why should you give me this riddle? That is what you are thinking isn't it? It is a fair question, it is a question I have been thinking about for many days. I have been trying to come up with some insight or argument of such wisdom that you would weep at the clarity of my thoughts, but in truth Varda
I can not, there is no argument that I can offer. So be patient and let me tell you of this land, of what we see and what will be if we let it."

Alexander stopped for a second and gazed out to sea, he then sighed and spoke again.

"Varda, you have travelled everywhere in this land, further than me, yet even where I have travelled I find the same no matter where I go. Death, Darkness and Evil, these things are everywhere. The roads are haunted by monsters, the trees are twisted and evil, the mountains hold beasts so terrible that only the most mighty may go there. Cosrin is a Dark place. But
in that darkness there is one Light, one star in the night. Moorgate! It is surrounded by darkness on all sides but it holds the darkness at bay. People like you and me hold it at bay. But we are hard pushed to do it. Every day we battle darkness yet no matter how many evil creatures we slay, more and more seem to take their place. This is now, as the world is now. Imagine what the world would be like if the Heart of Creation fell into evil's hands."

"Imagine a world where a single person has the power of creation and destruction in the blink of an eye. Imagine a world where someone can destroy everything you love on a whim without even having to lift a finger. Imagine a world where someone can create evil beasts and monsters to do their bidding. Imagine an endless supply of these beasts battering on Moorgate until we give in to the holder of the Heart's demands. Allow the Heart to fall into Evil's hands and it will be so. But Varda, danger does not end there. Image having that power yourself? At first it might be a good thing, to help the world but how soon would it corrupt you, I am good of heart and I can tell ye it would corrupt me, I would end up what I now despise. The Heart must never be complete. For no mortal can hold its power and not be corrupted by it, we are not designed to hold such power. Kali is the only one who should have this power, no other. So Varda, I ask ye, no I beg ye to give the Children of Light the riddle, so we may find a piece of the Heart and hide it from mankind, so the Heart may never be formed.

Cosrin is surrounded in darkness already, but while we fight for it its hasa future, it has hope. If the Heart is ever made whole then it is doomed. Will you give us a chance to save Cosrin?"

Varda gazed at Alexander, she could see the belief in his eyes, but how easily would that belief turn to corruption if he gained even a single piece of the Heart. Would the evil of the item drive him and his Clan to search for more pieces and bring about this great evil? Varda lets out a sigh and spoke.

"Your words are fine Alexander, sweet and true, but don't you understand what I do? I am doing what you ask already. I am protecting the world from harm by keeping the riddle secret, keeping it from eyes that should not see it. It is a heavy task, you do not make it easier."

"Do you truly think Alexander that I want to see an evil world, or one full of blood-shed? Do you think I am heartless or selfish keeping it to myself? Trust me my friend I would dearly love to shed this burden, for the fate of the world could depend on my actions, but I gave my word and on my honour I will protect this riddle. Your beliefs may hold you up now, but in the dark, when you are alone, the corruption will call to you and you must fight it off. Are you strong enough for that Alexander, are you?"
