Crow Bar Report : Grab Bag Fags, Jun 7th, 2000Hello everyone. In this edition...
Thanks to the several dozen who showed up for our latest party at Crow Bar in North Beach this Wednesday. This latest party attracted a grab bag of different people. We had lesbians, bookish AOL chat room denizens, prissy-sissy types, some leathermen, and all in all, a fun mixed crowd of people. This was also our first foray into an obviously straight bar. It was fun to watch the scale tip from North Beach hetero to queer and back as the evening progressed. Several times, we watched well-groomed straight couples walk in the front door, stop, look around ("Honey, there's something not right about the crowd") and walk back out the door. Must have been the melange of leather, vaguely mannish women and sissy boys that tipped them off. Overall, it was a fun low-key evening, and the bar staff enjoyed the unexpected business. Quick Survey : What NextWe'll be throwing our next party in mid July sometime. We'd received lots of suggestions. If you have a moment, help us out with this quick survey to help us plan the next party. Send your email to barney_schlockum@yahoo.com Q1. What type of venue would you like to do next?
b. Another local dive bar c. Dyke bar d. Hotel bar (i.e. queer the Marriott skybar) e. Other (suggestion below)
Q2. What weekday works best for you?
Q3. (For those who attended one of our parties) Help WantedIf you'd like to help out with future parties, drop us a line. We're doing this in our spare time, and are not professional club organizers, so we can always use some help planning these events. We'd like to encourage people to participate in planning these events, so if you'd like to help out, we can use help with...
music : some places we look at will let us bring a DJ, if you're a DJ, or have a friend who DJs, we'd love to hear from you. Some of our parties will be music oriented. Some will be low key. promotion : to date, we've only promoted GQB online. We don't want to make a big effort out of promoting it (flyers, ads, etc), but if you or your big-mouthed friends want to help spread the word, please do so. The more that show up, the merrier (within reason). greeters : we'd also like to hear from friendly, extroverted types who like being the center of attention to grab GQBers as they walk in the door and introduce them to the rest of the crowd. The pay sucks, but you'll have good odds to score That's all for now. Enjoy your pride weekend (or avoiding pride weekend). See you next month... Barney Schlockum |
