Natures Church

The Cathedral in the forest glade
Formed by the lofty trees
Fills me full of reverence
Beauty felt as well as seen

The forest reaching skyward
The heavens to embrace
The branches in the canopy
Make a silhouette of lace

Just pause and listen for a moment
And you’ll hear the gentle sound
Of moving leaves and bending trees
And God is all around

When I’m there I feel so humble
Overwhelmed by natures plan
Its inspired architecture
Beyond the capacity of man

But the animals have all but gone
And for insects, poisons now their lot
Soon man will control all the countryside
But he’ll be left with what?

This church with root foundation
Deep bedded in the earth
Is an incomparable creation
And we cannot know its worth

Its been standing here for centuries
Long before they built the town
Man could never build such a structure
But - one day he’ll cut it down!

"This poem is a reflection of how Christianity is appearing more and more irrelevant to society today.  Using the analogy of trees, although the church is the foundational root for Christians, giving warmth, strength and hope, it is disappearing from many lives today.  It is disappearing from society, and from the basic teachings of the world.  People are forgetting the relevance of Christ in our lives and Christianity.  It no longer seems relevant to today, and just as the trees of the forest are being destroyed, so too will man try and destroy the church and the faith of Christians.  But ~ although you can destroy a book or a building, like the Bible and a church, you will never destroy the words.  You will never destroy God's word ~ His unchanging truth, and undying love for us.  Despite all that man does to destroy it, the church will always stand strong ~ not in a building, but in a people.  For the church is not just a building, but a fellowship and gathering of God's people.
And that can never be destroyed!"
