In the midst of a storm
on a turbulent sea,
I am tossed about
like a refugee.
I am bruised and cut,
clothes tattered and torn.
At the end of my rope
I begin to mourn.

Peering into the dark
through the tempest of life
I search for some hope
to be rescued from strife.
Throwing back my head
in desperation I scream,
as I cry for help
from this deadly dream.

Out of the tempest
and darkness I see
a pinpoint of light
that's guiding me.
My failing vision
clings onto this beam
like a ray of hope
in a desperate dream.

The longer I strive to
hold on to this light,
the greater it grows,
the stronger I fight.
The vision before me
enraptures my heart
as the Great Spirit comes,
His love to impart.

When I awake from
this tumultuous dream
and the mists of night
vanish like steam,
I perceive the message
the Creator's conveyed -
with the power of love
can the Light be made.

So when into the darkness
the paths of life take,
always carry the Light
that love doth create.
For in so doing
you will brighten the way
of others whose lives
seek the light of day.

"This poem could almost have been written about me....or you....or anyone who can relate to these types of feelings.   Being tossed around in a sea of emotions that flood you amidst confusion....from reality, from hurts, from dreams even.   Feeling lost and as if you are drowning, when suddenly there is a light or a strength that empowers you and keeps you going, even when you feel like giving up.   And in persevering, we shine our lights to others who need to know, who need the strength and the courage to keep going....to those who seek the beacon of light that guided us through our own seastorms of life.   What a wonderful expression of emotions Virginia has shared!"
