A Simple Man
Who is this man I've heard about
Who healed the sick and lame?
A carpenter, from Nazareth,
Jesus is His name.
A simple man, a worker,
Unschooled, His appearance rough.
A prophet and a king they say?
No, He's not good enough!
A prophet should be a great man,
A leader, one in charge.
He should be clothed so richly
With a following, so large.
This man is dressed so meekly,
His retinue is small.
Is this man a great king?
No, He is not at all!
Yet, look, people are drawn to Him,
They gather, thousands at a time.
They seek him out, they search for Him,
All looking for a sign,
A sign to show of God's love,
A sign to show His care,
And with them all the signs they seek,
This simple man will share.
No trumpets blare, no bands will march,
When this man comes 'round.
But in His simple teachings
The glory of Heaven is found.
He teaches the people how to love
And to live a better way,
And how to be compassionate,
To enjoy life and to pray.
He's never had a palace
Or a home to call His own.
No earthly possessions does He carry,
No crops for Him are sown.
But in His simple, humble life
God's great power is manifest.
People are healed and sanctified
And the world is greatly blessed.
For that power goes on forever,
It's still working in our world today,
Still healing, and still changing lives
And teaching people how to pray

"This poem speaks of the awesome kind of man Jesus was when He lived here on earth. It speaks of the great power of God, who created Jesus in His own image....so that we would know just the type of peson God is. Jesus had a great compassion for others, no matter who they were. He cared. He loved them. And He died for them and for us, so that we may have the honour of being saved by God's wondrous grace. Jesus performed miracles in God's name, healing lepers and those crippled, giving the blind sight and the deaf ears to hear! He was God's Son, and He chose to eat with thieves, prostitutes and sinners. Because they were the people who needed to hear and experience God's grace the most. He is the greatest example of what we should be."
