2nd week July - Running of the Bulls. In Pamplona, Spain. runners wear traditional red and white handkerchiefs around their necks and try not to get caught by the bulls.

July 15 - St. Swithin's Day. A 9th century monk who has come to be called the "rain saint" of England.

July 15 - Clement Moore. The writer who gave us "The Night Before Christmas". He was born in 1779, and when his poem was published on December 23, 1823, it was without his knowledge.

July 17 - "Wrong-Way Corrigan" Sixty years ago today, an Irish immigrant and unemployed airplane mechanic named Douglas Corrigan violated flight regulations of both the United States and Ireland by flying a monoplane for more than 28 hours from New York to Dublin ญญ without a radio or any special navigational equipment. Because he made it, he was welcomed home with a tickertape parade as a hero. And because he claimed he'd accidentally followed the wrong end of the compass needle, he was nicknamed "Wrong-Way."
