June 26 - Babe Didrikson Day. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on June 26, 1914, Mildred Didrikson (known as "Babe") grew to be one of the world's greatest athletes. She was on the All-America basketball team, won eight events in track and field, Babe won gold medals for the 80-meter hurdles and the javelin throw, plus a silver medal in the high jump, she also excelled in baseball and softball, swimming, figure skating, billiards, and even football, she was an amateur and professional golfer.
June 27 - Happy Birthday to you. The melody to "Happy Birthday to You" was composed by Kentucky school teacher Mildred J. Hill. Mildred was born June 27, 1859. Mildred Hill died June 5, 1916, without ever knowing how popular her melody would become. "Happy Birthday to You" is expected to enter public domain when the copyright expires in 2010.
