All About Sparks
The returning girls took the new girls on a
tour of the meeting place, the returning girls were talked to
before hand, about what they should point out (ie. where the
bathroom is, what is off limits, boundries for outside play
etc...) We read the spark story to them and they made sit upons.
We wrote their names on a piece of paper, they put their
handprints on the paper and the paper was taped onto a milk bag
full of paper. These situpons are so we can "place" the
girls in whatever part of the circle we want.
Bring a Friend
We had a bring a friend night. The girls made friendship
braclets. They used beads on pipe cleaners and they had three
blue beads in the middle to signify the sapphires which stand for
frienship in the Spark Story. Then they swapped braclets with
their friend. We played some games and then did a participation
story with them. Note: Just
to let you know, it went over very well, however, we had 12 girls
and 9 of them brought friends so we had 21 girls with 2 adult
leaders and a Junior Leader. We ended up recruiting 3 of them
into our unit.
Feelings and
Emotions
We talked about different feelngs and emotions, then the girls
got into groups and put on skits showing when they would be
happy, sad, angry or scared. The rest of the group had to guess
which emotion they were showing. I read a few sentences from a
bunch of books and the girls told me how they thought the
character(s) in the story felt about the situation. I read
Franklin's Bad Day to them as well.
