First Aid
The topic of the meeting held on 2nd Dec, 98 was "First Aid". As Winnie, Tiffany and Pixie are first aiders certified by the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association, they took over the meeting. The aim of the meeting was to teach the guides how to save the others when there are accidents.
The meeting was split into two parts. Winnie and Tiffany were in-charge of teaching new recruits some bandaging knowledge and the aim of first aid. Pixie taught the others some useful applications of first aid, such as what to do when someone is bleeding or being poisoned, they have already learnt bandaging in the previous year.
The aims of first aids are
To save the patient's life.
To prevent his wound or sickness to get worse.
To help him from getting well.
From the meeting, new recruits learnt how to stop bleeding, dress a wound and bandage a sprained wrist. They also learnt how to use the telephone to summon help and deliver a clear message, and to fit up a simple first aid kit.
Other guides learnt how to stop bleeding and the first aid treatment for burns, including those caused by acid or friction and scald. They know what to do when someone has swallowed a poisonous substance.
We hope the guides found the meeting useful and enjoyable. At last, we must remind you all that if you are a guide who hold one of these certificates, you may qualify for the "First Aid Badge" of Girl Guides.
